Background
Galaxy Angel, also known as Project G.A. was a project started by the company BROCCOLI to cross multiple forms of media. A mix of sci-fi, comedy, romance, and action, the series has won over numerous fans with it's numerous forms. The original concept was mainly developed by BROCCOLI Chairman Takaaki Kidani who describes it's creation as a mix between the series Sakura Taisen and Star Wars. He claims to have kept both series in mind when weaving the series as he wanted to create an effect something similar to both. Galaxy Angel first premiered with a comedic and light-hearted anime series on April 7, 2001. It was later that the manga take on the series would be released on April 27, 2001. The last element of the series to be released was the original game, simply titled Galaxy Angel, on August 23, 2002. Following the success of the original release, the original game series became a trilogy with the next two parts arriving in the two following years. To accompany the new games, three more seasons of anime were released as well as a sequel to the original manga Galaxy Angel Beta in the U.S. and GA2nd in Japan. Several music and drama CDs were also released to accompany the games and anime featuring the game CVs themselves. A musical was also written for the original GA, featuring several people who would work on the future series GAII. While the original GA series met it's end, there was an announced continuation of Project G.A. This would later be recognized as GAII which is placed in the same world, several years after the end of the original series. The series saw much of the same treatment with an initial manga release on December 10, 2005. The game was delayed but eventually released on June 22, 2006. Just like the original series, a comedic anime series was released to accompany the new characters on October 1, 2006. The GAII series still continues on in the current day and will also see a game trilogy. The future of the franchise after this remains unknown. |
